Work Experience:
I have always been involved in education and coaching.  When I was in Middle School and High School, I coached youth baseball and officiated youth baseball and basketball.  When I was in high school and college I taught summer enrichment programs to elementary students.  I was hired in 1997 as a 3rd grade teacher at Pawnee Elementary in Shawnee Mission and looped to 4th grade the following year.  I stayed there for 6 years before moving on to administration.  During my time at Pawnee, I chaperoned and taught 6th grade students from several schools at Wildwood Outdoor School.  I coached wrestling for 6 years at Shawnee Mission West High School serving as head coach for two years.  It was the combination of coaching and other leadership opportunities that made me make the move to administration.  I received my first principal job in 2005 at Tomahawk Elementary in SMSD.  I served 300 students K-6 including a self-contained behavior program.  During that time, I coordinated the start of the district’s Regular Education Social Work program, served as coordinator of cluster principals and served on the Board of Directors at Wildwood.  In 2010, I was reassigned to Prairie Elementary where I served 425 students.  I was a big part of the transformation of fund raising efforts and organization of the PTA and Prairie Foundation Board.  During my administration, we were consistently one of the top 5 schools in the district in achievement winning a couple Governor Achievement Awards.  I also successfully started the lunchroom composting and recycling program, diverting 90% of food waste from the landfill.  We won several awards for our efforts.

My wife Nicki and I were married in 2001 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.  We have been members of Divine Mercy in Gardner and Holy Spirit in Overland Park over that time period.  Currently we belong to Holy Spirit where four of our children (Patrick, Nicholas, Catherine “Cate” and Anna) attend school.  John, my oldest attends Saint Thomas Aquinas.

We are very involved in our Parish.  I’m a 3rd degree Knight and served as Lay Director for my Christ Renews His Parish Formation.  I also serve on the Leadership Board for This Man Is You.  Nicki is a trained instructor with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and works for Holy Trinity as an assistant in the CGS Program.  I’m highly involved as a coach of my own kid’s sports.  I've been involved coaching youth athletics for over 30 years.

Passions and Interests:

I enjoy studying Genealogy, American and Early church and European History.  I love Baseball and all sports statistics, Trout Fishing and the outdoors.  My biggest passion is spending time with family and being a part of my children’s growth physically, athletically and most of all spiritually.

Favorite Scripture:

Isaiah 43:1 – “I have called you by name - you are mine.”
